The short version
Easy for you, from the first message
- We pay. Every collection gets a cash offer, explained book by book if you like. We don’t just take books away.
- We look at every book. Older books from before barcodes, signed copies and local history are exactly what a quick scan misses.
- We take nearly everything. Every subject, old and new, hardcover and paperback. The only thing we pass on is magazines.
- No sorting. Leave the books where they are. We look through the whole lot.
- Free pickup. Anywhere within about 30 minutes of Ann Arbor. If you’re more than 15 minutes away, we ask for five boxes or more.
- Big is good. We love whole private collections, even a hundred boxes.
- Fast answers. We reply right away and can often come the same day.
- Fair cash offers, explained honestly, with no obligation.
Before we arrive
Four quick tips
Check inside
Flip through for letters, photos and cash tucked between pages.
Keep it together
Don’t let anyone cherry-pick first. One look at the whole lot gets you the best offer.
Snap the shelves
Wide photos of shelves or boxes help us plan, and they’re enough.
Family records
Old Bibles often hold handwritten family history worth keeping.
Questions
Selling books, answered
Do you buy books near Ann Arbor?
Yes. We buy books of every kind, from a single box to whole private libraries, anywhere within about 30 minutes of Ann Arbor, including Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Brighton, Plymouth and Canton.
Do you pick up books for free?
Yes. Pickup is free. If you are more than 15 minutes from us, we ask for at least five boxes. We pack and carry everything ourselves.
What books do you take?
Nearly everything: fiction and nonfiction, old and new, hardcovers and paperbacks, children’s books, cookbooks, art books, textbooks and ephemera. The one thing we don’t take is magazines. You don’t need to sort anything first.
How much do you pay for books?
We make a fair cash offer based on what we can realistically resell the books for, and we’re happy to explain how we got there. Collections with signed, rare or in-demand books get offers to match.
Do I need to send photos?
Photos or a short video help us respond with more detail, but they aren’t required. Tell us roughly how many books you have and where, and we’ll take it from there.
How fast can you come?
We respond right away and can often come the same day or the next day.
Do you pay for books, or just take them away?
We pay. Every collection gets a cash offer, and we explain how we got to it. Pickup is free either way.
Should I give my books away or sell them?
Look first. Most collections are mostly ordinary books, but many hold a few that are worth real money: first editions, signed copies, out-of-print subjects, old local history. Sorting books by scanning barcodes misses the ones printed before barcodes existed. Send us a few photos and we’ll tell you, free, before you decide.
Do you give tax receipts for books?
No. We’re a business that buys books, not a charity, so we pay you instead. If you want a tax deduction, donate to a registered 501(c)(3) such as a library’s Friends group. For donations over $5,000 the IRS also needs a qualified appraisal.
Do you take encyclopedias, textbooks and old paperbacks?
Yes. We take nearly everything except magazines, including encyclopedia sets, textbooks and paperbacks. Not every book has resale value, and we’ll tell you honestly which ones do, but we still pack and haul the whole lot.
