About this book
Olie; or, The Old West Room: The Weary at Work and the Weary at Rest, published under the initials L. M. M., now bibliographically attributed to Lydia M. Millard.
New York: Mason Brothers, 1855. First Edition.
An uncommon mid-19th-century American novel originally published anonymously under the author’s initials. Bibliographic records for early American fiction identify L. M. M. as Lydia M. Millard and record this Mason Brothers 1855 edition as her novel Olie.
Original decorative cloth hardcover with an elaborate repeating embossed geometric design to the boards and spine. Book shows expected wear from age, including rubbing and fraying at the corners and spine ends, discoloration/soiling to the cloth, and general shelf wear. Interior pages show age toning and scattered spotting. Binding appears intact from the photographed areas.
Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition.
An unusual surviving example of antebellum American fiction by a woman writer, suitable for collections focused on 19th-century literature, women authors, anonymous/pseudonymous publishing, or decorative antique bindings.
