An attractive antique illustrated novella from noted American author and early feminist writer Elizabeth Stuart Phelps. The “chariot” of the title is an early automobile, used in a dramatic nighttime journey by a desperate father attempting to reach his injured child.

Original sea-green pictorial cloth with gilt lettering and black-and-gold automobile design to the front board. Illustrated with a frontispiece and an additional inserted plate by William Hurd Lawrence.

This copy shows age-related wear including rubbing and fraying at corners and spine ends, light soiling/discoloration to the cloth, and several spots/stains to the rear board. Pages show normal age toning. Binding appears sound. No dust jacket present.
