About this book

Memoir of Rev. Claudius Buchanan, D.D.

By Rev. Hugh Pearson, M.A.

Published by the American Tract Society, 150 Nassau Street, New York.

Early antique American edition of the life and work of Rev. Claudius Buchanan, incorporating material from his Christian Researches in Asia.

Buchanan was associated with early Christian missionary activity in India, and this volume contains historical material concerning Christian missions, India, religious education, Bible translation, and the spread of Christianity in Asia.

Undated American Tract Society edition, believed to date approximately to the 1830s–1840s.

Original decorative cloth binding with ornate blind-stamped designs and gilt spine lettering.

Condition: Fair to Good antique condition. Boards and spine show substantial age-related rubbing, fading, staining, edge wear, and worn corners. Interior has considerable age toning, foxing, spotting and scattered staining. Previous-owner writing/notations are present. Binding remains together but shows expected wear from age and use. Text remains readable. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition.

A scarce early religious and missionary-history volume with particular interest for collectors of Christian missions, British India, American Tract Society publications, and 19th-century religious books.
